Outgoing mail (including a check) was stolen from an Interlachen mailbox last night. The post office recommends residents wait until morning to put out all outgoing mail and suggests that important items to be mailed, including checks, be placed in mailboxes INSIDE the post office. Neighbors please watch out for any unusual activity in our neighborhood. Unfortunately, thieves are also using bogus emails to pull scams. Recently a neighbor’s email address was infiltrated and over a 1000 messages were sent out to anyone who had ever sent, been sent, or who had been on a distribution list with this person. There was a request to wire money due to an emergency. The email was a scam. It is recommended to always verify a story before acting. Furthermore, never send anyone passwords, credit card numbers, social security numbers via email. Legitimate companies will not request these numbers via email.
